Blackmagic Redefines Cinema Tech with PYXIS 12K
At the NAB 2025 show in Las Vegas, Blackmagic Design made headlines once again by announcing its latest digital cinema camera: the PYXIS 12K. Aimed at professional filmmakers and indie creators alike, this modular, full-frame camera offers groundbreaking resolution, premium image quality, and a price tag that disrupts the high-end market—just $4,995.

The PYXIS 12K features a 36x24mm RGBW full-frame sensor that supports up to 12,288 x 8,040 resolution with 16 stops of dynamic range and impressively low noise levels. It’s the same sensor that powers the URSA Cine 12K LF, now packed into a more compact and flexible body.
This camera is a performance powerhouse:
- 12K at 40 fps,
- 8K at 60 fps, and
- 4K at a stunning 112 fps.
Whether you’re shooting in full-frame 3:2 open gate, Super 35mm, or 6:5 anamorphic, the PYXIS adapts with ease. Thanks to its RGBW sensor layout, it delivers superior color accuracy and enhanced low-light performance.
Crafted from aerospace-grade aluminum and weighing under 1.5 kg, the PYXIS 12K is perfect for use on gimbals, drones, or handheld rigs. It supports interchangeable L-Mount, PL, and EF lens mounts, making it compatible with everything from Leica glass to ARRI primes.
The built-in 4-inch HDR display (1500 nits) makes on-set monitoring a breeze, and an optional 5-inch HDR touchscreen ($995) or URSA Cine EVF can be added for expanded flexibility.

Cutting-Edge Workflow and Cloud Integration
Storage and workflow integration are equally impressive. The PYXIS comes with:
- Dual CFexpress slots,
- USB-C support for external SSDs,
- Real-time H.264 proxy generation, and
- Direct cloud upload via 10G Ethernet or 5G smartphones.
With native support for DaVinci Resolve remote editing, as well as integrated streaming over RTMP and SRT protocols, the PYXIS 12K turns your production into a live-ready, cloud-native experience.
Robust Connectivity and Power Options
Connectivity options include 12G-SDI HDR output, mini XLR with 48V phantom power, Ethernet 10G, and compatibility with Sony BP-U batteries. Blackmagic also offers an SSD mounting plate for easier on-the-go capture or live broadcasting.
In short, the Blackmagic PYXIS 12K isn’t just a camera—it’s a production revolution.
